Activity Analysis

This module provides immediate insight into the cause-and-effect relationship of system activity while cutting hours and days off the process of diagnosing system issues. View User Activity, System Events and System Metrics all in one graph with a single button click. Data from any activity log can be pulled and plotted against any other along with key system metrics on the same time scale. Data can also be streamed in real-time to show how user activity affects system performance.

Log data is normalized so it can be viewed in a single screen so no more having multiple event log windows open trying to reconcile log events. In addition to the grid format that can be exported to Excel, various graphical tools are provided for analyzing data including charting and event-based graphing. Charts can be drilled into for deep analysis not available with traditional log analysis tools.

USE CASE:
A user complains of a problem in the system. Immediately, many people are involved trying to both gather information as well as diagnose the problem. It takes a knowledgeable person to even know what to look for. Various logs and other artifacts are pulled from many servers to be packaged and sent to the person doing the analysis. The analysis first requires filtering out the noise and reconciling dates and activities across logs and assumes some expert level of knowledge to look for events that relate to the reported problem. This process can take hours or days before the analyzer is in a position to make an assessment. Ascension automates this process to a few clicks and a few seconds.
